Alberta TrailNet

ALBERTA TRAILNET

Alberta is renowned for the beauty and diversity of its natural resources.  Landscapes vary from hot, dry badlands, to vast, unbroken forest, to alpine tundra and massive icefields.  The CPR donated approximately 400 kms of abandoned rights-of-way to the Trans Canada Trail in Alberta.  Trail building is either in progress or complete along many sections of the route.  Alberta TrailNet Society is the Provincial Trail Council responsible for the planning and promotion of the Trans Canada Trail in Alberta.

Mission Statement

To promote a trail network, including the Trans Canada Trail, connecting all Albertans.

What is Alberta TrailNet Society?

Alberta TrailNet is a charitable society managed by a volunteer Board of Directors.  We promote all types of trails in the interest of a broad range of user groups.  While the promotion of active living through the use of recreational trails is our major focus, we also recognize and support trail routes as one option in our transportation system.

Our Mandate

To support local groups in their trail building activities by providing a provincial plan, facilitating liability insurance and providing practical information on trail planning, construction and operation.

To represent and promote, through a formal agreement, the Trans Canada Trail Foundation in Alberta, and allocate the resources we receive from it to local groups.

To act as an agent for the Province of Alberta in the distribution of the provincial Millennium Trail Grant.
